Senior Taylor Bentcover, Cheer, 3.6
GPA
Taylor is a senior captain of the
Meadowdale cheerleading squad and has been on cheer since her sophomore year.
She’s been in National Honor Society for three years and is an active member of
the Meadowdale A.S.B., currently serving as Secretary. Active in social causes,
she organized a baby food drive at Meadowdale after watching a news story about
a baby food/supplies shortage at local shelters. Taylor was a member of the
Meadowdale Girls JV Soccer Squad during her freshman year and participated for a
number of years at a highly competitive level in gymnastics, premier select
soccer, and cross-country. She also participated in track, crew and swimming. At
the United Cheerleading Association Cheer Camp this past summer, Taylor was
selected as an All-American Cheerleader and was one of four camp attendees
invited to apply for a staff position for next year's camp program. Taylor
actively participates in her church, Young Life and Campaigners youth
organizations.
Coach Kimberly Berry comments:
“Taylor has many attributes that make her a model student and athlete. Taylor
has been on the cheer squad for three years and is a second-year captain. In
addition she is also on the ASB council, Young Life, and has a rigorous school
schedule.”
Danny McDonald, Football, 3.5 GPA
Danny is the Mavericks football
quarterback. He also participates in track and baseball, and is a Senior ASB
Senator. Danny has played sports since he was five and considers sports
fundamental in learning how to be a team player. His future plans include
attending the UW where he hopes to play football.
Coach Mark Stewart comments:
“Danny is a leader of the team. He has played when banged up, is a great student
taking two higher level math courses and getting A’s in both. Danny has made
significant plays this year contributing to our great 9-0 success.”
OCTOBER

volunteers as a tutor for special needs elementary kids and assists the
Meadowdale Middle School volleyball team. Meagan comes from a family of
sports-minded people where she learned that sports are an important part of
life, health and fun. Meagan hopes to continue playing volleyball at a four-year
university next fall. Coach's comments: "Megan is our volleyball
captain for the second year. She's a fierce competitor, able to lead her
teammates with strength and compassion. She's consistently one of the top assist
leaders."
Sam Werner, Football,

coach at MHS summer basketball camps and coaches with the Run to Win
organization. Sam believes that sports are important in developing team work,
connecting with people and staying motivated. Sam plans on continuing his sports
in a four-year university. Coach's comments: "Sam is a leader by example
on and off the field. He does everything we ask him to do and more. He's a great
student and a big contributor to our team's success this year."
NOVEMBER
Shelley Koehn, Cross Country, 3.98 GPA
Shelley also participates in track, plays piano for the Jazz Band and is
President of the National Honor Society. She volunteers at the Woodland Park
Petting Zoo. Sports help Shelley set goals, meet new people and be a part of the

engineering. Coach's comments: "Shelley is our #2 runner. She is a great
captain who provides valuable leadership and consistently inspires her
teammates."

few weeks. He placed 8th in the Mt. Baker Invite, 5th at the Edmonds Invite and
has been in the top five of all league meets."

addition to Cheer, Elle dances five days a week and is a member of National
Honor Society. In her spare time, Elle enjoys helping others in her community
and abroad. Since the 8th grade, Elle has actively volunteered at the Pacific
Science Center. Her international volunteer experience includes working with
underprivileged children in Costa Rica. Elle considers being involved in sports
an important part of being a high school student. She believes that sports help
build school pride and spirit. Following graduation, Elle plans to continue her
education by attending a four-year university.
Matt Beucherie, Basketball, 3.85 GPA
Matt is a leader on and off the basketball
court. When he's not making last second game-winning free throws, Matt uses his
leadership skills as the MHS Yearbook Editor and member of the National Honor
Society. On the basketball court, his leadership was evident during the early
part of the season when many of his fellow teammates couldn’t play due to the
football playoffs. The veteran senior helped lead the younger players during
practices and game time. Matt loves his high school sports experience and the
privilege of being part of the team. Following graduation, Matt hopes to
continue playing sports in college. He is looking forward to attending
University of Washington, Seattle University or Gonzaga in the fall.
JANUARY 2010
Riley Neff-Warner, Basketball, 3.1 GPA
Riley has been a long-standing Mavs
athlete. In the fall, he was a Football Team Captain and helped lead us to the
state playoffs. This winter he is excelling as a starter on our basketball team.
Riley has participated in all of the basketball clinics, is a Link Crew member
and volunteers as a spelling tutor for elementary kids. Riley has also handled
the challenge of succeeding in AP and Honors courses. He has enjoyed his high
school career as a Maverick athlete because of the opportunity to get involved
with the community and other schools. Riley plans on attending a four-year
university. Coach McGuire says, "Both as a sophomore and a junior, Riley had
injuries that kept him from playing a full year and contributing as much as he
wanted. However, his senior year has been impressive. He has started every game
so far and in addition to scoring, Riley has helped the Mavericks win by playing
defense on the opponent’s best player. Thanks in part to Riley's efforts, the
basketball team has experienced some early season success."
Gabi Beyer, Basketball, 3.85 GPA Our
girls basketball nominee plays a key role on the team in both performance and
leadership. She also transfers those skills to her coaching job at the Boys and
Girls Club, where she coaches 5th Grade Girls. Gabi also plays softball for MHS.
Gabi loves competing with other schools and meeting new people. She is currently
applying to a number of four-year universities. Coach Parker nominated Gabi and
notes her hard work in preparing herself and her teammates during the off-season
by devoting herself to the weight room and other types of fitness regimens. She
is a true leader who builds consensus among her teammates, is a first-rate
student and is one of the best point guards in WESCO South.
FEBRUARY
Mallory Roberts, Basketball, 3.85 GPA
Mallory loves basketball, especially competition and
developing relationships with her teammates. She also plays select basketball
with NW Motion. Mallory is a member of National Honor Society. She is also a
trained barista, but is currently working as a sales clerk. Mallory volunteers
as a 5th Grade Basketball Coach at Alderwood Boys & Girls Club. Mallory will
attend WSU and study Sports Medicine and Education. She believes strongly that
sports teaches you great life skills such as discipline and teamwork. Mallory is
a natural leader who was instrumental in the success of Lady Mavs basketball
this season. She is a tireless worker who always puts the interest of the team
and her teammates first. Mallory is the type of student athlete who makes
Meadowdale High School shine and we are lucky to have her.
Andrew
Parada, Wrestling, 3.04 GPA Andrew loves wrestling for
its conditioning, competition and structure. He also played soccer for MHS and
he has been a member of the MHS Ping Pong Club. As a volunteer, Andrew spends
much of his time working with the Edmonds Back Yard Habitat, helping to improve
the environment we live in alongside our four-legged pals. Andrew also has
worked at Engineers NW of Seattle as a part-time assistant for three years. He
is planning on studying Engineering at a local community college and then
transferring to an out-of-state university. Andrew was a great senior captain
all year long. In every tournament he was able to get third place or higher
during the regular season. He got second in the district tournament and fourth
at the regional tournament (state qualifying). At state, he got 8th at a very
difficult weight class. Besides all of these individual accomplishments, he was
a great captain, leading and mentoring many young athletes.
Coach Josh
Knowles says: "I have known Andrew for the past six years; watching his
growth from a quiet seventh grader to a leader in wrestling as a senior has been
very enjoyable to me. He had to battle through a lot of adversity to make it to
state this year and a lesser person may not have had the drive to persevere.
Overcoming injury, infection and many hospital visits later, he achieved his
goal of placing higher in the state tournament than he did the year before. I am
blessed in that I can say I was his coach!"
MARCH
Olivia Bates, Tennis, 3.95 GPA
Olivia, an ASB Senator, has played MHS Tennis for four
years and also rows during the summer for a Lake Union Crew. Also a past Link
Leader, Olivia is a member of the Hi-Q Team. She also plays violin in the MHS
Orchestra and volunteers her time teaching music in Edmonds. Olivia loves the
sportsmanship of tennis and staying active, as well as the competitive
experience. She is planning on attending a four-year university to study music
and/or biology and hopefully being on the rowing team. Her coach says:
"Olivia is a four-year tennis player and now a senior captain. She is an
outstanding athlete who displays excellent sportsmanship and leadership. She is
also a role model for all tennis athletes in the program. Olivia is a solid
choice for our Scholar Athlete of the Month."
Andrew Suh, Baseball, 3.72 GPA
Andrew takes the same strong work ethic in the classroom to the
baseball fields, where he is a top starter. A past Link Crew member, Andrew is
also active with his Youth Group and teaches Vacation Bible School. Andrew
enjoys the opportunity that team sports provides to spend time with other
athletes and compete. Andrew is lining up his future to study pre-med at the
University of Washington. Coach Hummel says: "He is a three-year starter
and letter winner. Andrew has a high GPA, while taking primarily Honors and AP
courses. He is a team captain, a vocal and effective team leader and one of the
hardest workers we’ve ever had in out our baseball program. His constant
presence in the weight room has helped change the culture in our school and our
program in regard to work ethic. On the field, Andrew is off to a good start
with a two-run homer against Lake Stevens in the season opener."
APRIL
Stephanie Bidondo, Track, 2.89 Stephanie is a Running Start
student at Edmonds Community College and will be attending the University of
Idaho as a Psychology major. This talented sprinter is the anchor of the Mavs
4x100 and 4x200 relay teams that is ranked #2 in NW District competition. She is
also undefeated in the 200 meter dash and hopes to qualify for state. Stephanie
believes sports give her the energy to be active and engaged in her education,
school, and volunteerism. She feels that being involved in sports means trying
hard and pushing yourself to do better while still enjoying the activity and
physical benefits.
Brenden Howell, Soccer, 3.48 GPA

teammates for his leadership, team work and work ethic. He has played on the
